What are the charges associated with Credit Cards?
Credit Cards primarily come with two main charges i.e. Joining Fees and Annual Fees. Joining Fees is the fee paid by the customer to get a new Credit Card including application and processing charges. Annual Fee is the fee paid by the customer annually to keep their Credit Card account open and active. Most of the banks today waive off these charges depending upon their offers.
Some of the lesser-known charges associated with Credit Cards include:
- Late Payment Charge - The penalty amount charged over and above the interest rate when the customer does not pay the Credit Card Bill on time.
- Cash Withdrawal Charges - An amount charged by the bank when customers use the Credit Card for cash withdrawals.
- Foreign Currency Transactions - Fee charged by the bank when the customer conducts transactions at a foreign land. A defined percentage of the transaction value is calculated as the fee.
- Over-Limit Fee: When the cardholder spends more than the credit limit of the credit card, an over-limit fee is charged.
P.S. Not all Banks charge all the fees. Some of the fees may be waived off from time to time.
Credit Card Bill Payment
When you receive a credit card, banks mention the billing date of the card wherein any excessive amount spent by the customer has to be paid by them to the Bank in the form of bills payments. The Billing Date is the date on which the bill is generated by the bank and the Due Date is the date before which the customer is required to make the payment.
The Credit Card Bill demonstrates the outstanding amount of your card in the form of Minimum Amount Due and Total Amount Due. The Total Amount Due is the amount one is required to pay before the due date to avoid any additional charges. However, in case of financial crunch, customers can pay the Minimum Amount Due before the due date and have the option to carry forward the balance Total Amount Due ahead.
Credit Cards usually come with a feature of 'Days Past Due' where the amount outstanding from the customers according to the number of days past the due date is recorded. If your Credit Card Bill is overdue for long, your Credit Score may dip based on Days Past Due.
